JSW Steel Output Grows 39% in Q1 FY 2022


Private steelmaker JSW Steel reported 39 % growth in its crude steel output to 4.10 million tonne (MT) during the quarter that ended in June 2021. It had produced 2.96 MT in the April-June quarter of 2020-21, In June alone; it produced 1.37 MT, up 18 per cent, up from 1.16 MT in the corresponding period of 2020.

The capacity utilization level of the company was down to 91 per cent during the April-June quarter 2021, compared to 93 per cent a year ago, mainly due to a shortage of oxygen supply, which was diverted for medical purposes to combat the second major wave of Covid-19 virus induced pandemic.

During the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal, the company reportedly supplied over 65,000 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen to hospitals and medical facilities across the country.
