Konark is a combination of 'Kona' and 'Arka' where 'Kona' means 'Corner' & 'Arka' means 'Sun'.

Built in the middle of 13th century, the temple is a true epitome of artistic beauty and engineering marvels.

The temple was designed in the form of a gorgeously decorated chariot mounted on 24 wheels & drawn by 7 mighty horses.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple has intricate stone carvings.

The iconic wheel works as a sundial which tells the exact time.

The sun temple was made from three types of stone- Chlorite, Laterite & Khondalite.
