After 32 years in the building materials industry, Manoj Kuma Mishra transformed a long-ignored gap in the ceilings, drywall, and acoustics segment into Ceiling Banao–India’s first specialised omnichannel platform uniting products, technical expertise, and skilled professionals under one roof.
 
The Building Material Reporter (BMR) team recently caught up with Manoj Kumar Mishra, Founder & CEO of Ceiling Banao, at his Chennai showroom, where he shared deeper insights into the thought process, planning, and long-term vision guiding the platform’s mission to redefine the industry.
 
According to Mishra, for over three decades, he has navigated the sales and marketing landscape of the building materials sector, working with leading brands across India and overseas. Yet, throughout his journey, he consistently encountered a glaring void. “One particular segment—false ceilings, drywall, and acoustical products—was completely neglected in the market,” he observes. This realisation became the driving force behind Ceiling Banao, a pioneering venture shaped by passion and a clear intent to organise a highly fragmented sector.

Bridging the Knowledge and Supply Gap

Ceiling Banao is not a generic construction marketplace. It is a highly specialised, single-platform solution dedicated exclusively to three core verticals: false ceilings, drywall systems, and acoustical products. Mishra’s vision was clear: create a destination where architects, builders, contractors, and homeowners could access not just products, but comprehensive technical guidance and vetted service providers.
 
“The idea is to ensure that when someone plans a project, they don’t miss anything. They have access to the best possibilities available, both in India and abroad,” Mishra explains. His extensive travel and industry experience inform the curated display at the Ceiling Banao centre, which showcases everything from essential tools and accessories to the final finishing panels. 

A Deep Dive into Product Ecosystem and Technicality

A cornerstone of Ceiling Banao’s mission is product education. Mishra emphasises that quality execution hinges on understanding technical specifics often overlooked.

  • False Ceilings: He stresses that a durable, crack-free ceiling depends on the right combination—be it moisture-resistant or fire-rated gypsum boards, the gauge and coating of GI channels, and even the correct screws and connectors. “Each and every part of the false ceiling is most important,” he asserts, moving the conversation beyond aesthetics to sustainability and longevity.
  • The Drywall Revolution: Positioned as a modern alternative to brick-and-mortar, drywall is highlighted for its advantages in water-scarce India: lightweight construction, faster installation, and recyclability. Ceiling Banao displays various systems, from standard partitions to specialised ones incorporating insulation for acoustic and thermal performance. 
  • Acoustics & Aesthetics: The platform also showcases innovative products for sound management and design, such as metal ceilings (including popular waffle designs), 3D wall and ceiling panels, baffle ceilings, and open-cell systems. These solutions cater to the growing demand for functional aesthetics in commercial and high-end residential projects.

Sustainability and a Future-Forward Vision

Underpinning the entire offering is a strong emphasis on green building principles. “Our industry is completely dedicated to the Green Revolution,” Mishra states. He points to the recyclability of materials, energy savings from proper thermal insulation, and the overall reduction in water and labour waste compared to conventional methods.
 
Mishra’s ambitions for Ceiling Banao are expansive. With a display centre already operational, plans are underway to soon launch a second in Chennai, followed by a Pan-India expansion to Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. Beyond physical centres, the digital platform aims to onboard over 20,000 certified installers and contractors, creating a robust network that ensures quality service nationwide.
 
“My vision is not limited to metros,” he concludes. “India is a big country, and the demand for quality interiors is everywhere. Ceiling Banao is going to build a completely digital platform, a one-step solution for these specific industries. It’s about creating opportunity and taking the industry to the next level.”
