We were recently in the famous capital where we met some well-known architects & designers, including Monica Khosla Bhargava, Founder & Principal Architect, KHAM Consultants; Sunil Maniramka, the CEO and Principal Architect, Maniramka & Associates; and Pooja Bihani, Principal Architect, Spaces & Design.

MONICA Khosla Bhargava: Smart design & Smart architecture is a way of infusing ourselves with technology. A lot of design is based on economizing the resources we have. Sustainability and smart solutions help us achieve that in a very easy way and that’s the biggest aspect of smart architecture and smart design. Smart architecture can help us create a link between the two systems – urban and rural systems where both of them get integrated.

Sunil Maniramka: The design which helps people to live properly, makes them enjoy their building, and has the least effect on the environment is smart design.

Pooja Bihani: Smart design and architecture have to be driven by sustainability. We try to incorporate as much as sustainability and green design factors into interiors and that’s how we perceive smartness in architecture and interior design. We do that in various ways for example by choosing the right materials.

Relevancy of Professional Architects-designers: Do We Need Them?

MONICA Khosla Bhargava: People should contact architects so that they have good and well-built houses for their needs. The main segment of the country that needs housing is not being provided with houses. Architecture for all has to be like a basic human right. Architects can guide people on the use of products and help bring down costs.

Sunil Maniramka: Today, people know what good design is. So, now middle-class people are hiring architects and many architects are going out of their way. We, architects, use materials more responsibly. In several areas, now architects are a must—it’s mandatory to hire an architect. The client will hire an architect when he thinks it will add value to his project and he will get a better design.

Pooja Bihani: When you are building a new home, the treatment of space and infusing the right materials in the right place with the right technique is extremely important and it can be only done by a professional architect-designer. Besides, contractors waste a lot of resources and time. Hiring professionals helps to treat the project in the right manner. So, it’s dominantly important that a project is driven by a professional.
