JSW Paints Brings Dulux Under Its Roof, Acquires Akzo Nobel India

JSW Paints Ltd acquired Akzo Nobel India Ltd (ANIL) in almost ₹9,000 crore. This is a path breaking move in the Indian paint industry as ANIL is one of country's leading paint brands headquartered in Netherlands.

On the other hand, JSW which was launched in 2019, is among the fastest growing paint companies in India. It will now have 74.76% stake in ANIL. Parth Jindal, managing director of JSW Paints said, “With the magic of Dulux and thoughtfulness of JSW Paints, we look forward to delighting customers and building lasting value for our stakeholders.”

The entire step was taken to bring brands like Dulux and Sikken under the roof of JSW. The latter was not the only one in the line to acquire ANIL. Brands like Pidilite Industries and Indigo Paints were also in the race.

For those who may not know, Asian Paints has been the leading player in India’s paint and coating industry, followed by Berger Paints, Kansai Nerolac and Akzo Nobel respectively. However, that order has been challenged as Birla Opus is becoming a strong competitor, and also, JSW is aiming to get into the top-four positions.

Speaking about the acquisition, Greg Poux-Guillaume, CEO of AkzoNobel, expressed his pride in his company and said that he has full confidence that the company is in capable hands with JSW, a long-standing partner with extensive local knowledge. He mentioned, “This transaction is a significant milestone in the execution of our strategy."
