Dehradun's Residence Chetna is a Nature-Sensitive Home Rooted in Raw Beauty and Conscious Design

In the hustle bustle of the city, the residence, CHETNA comes as a breath of fresh air. While standing absolutely true to the nature, this beautiful house exudes positivity and spaciousness. Thanks to the design studio Lidha and its co-founder Ar. Gayatri Maithani, this house has been constructed with the idea of sustainability using eco-friendly materials. Being an eco-conscious firm, they make an extra effort to give it back to the environment. As a result, you'll find most of their projects reflect green building principles, nature-sensitive and mindful designs.

The first impression of any structure lasts forever, and this home is designed to ensure that impression is both striking and unforgettable. Curvilinear designs and brick walls welcome you as you enter from the main gate. The outdoors which is also a parking space, has been made with interesting patterns using broken stone tiles and cobblestone laying, a flowing and organic pattern has been designed that echoes curves and geometry.

As you walk in, the house opens into an organic paradise with exposed mud walls plastered in lime, airy rooms, marble flooring and natural light. These subtle elements have always created greater impact when placed and utilised in the optimum ways. The natural line plasters with stone and brick windows alongside the filler slab give a sense of rawness and peace. Windows and openings made of fluid geometries and dynamic forms look sculptural.

Spaces shaped by arches often evoke a deep sense of belonging and that’s exactly what this house embodies. With arched windows and doorways, the home feels less like a structure and more like a work of art.

Composition in action is the new way to view spaces and Lidha has made one such attempt to curate this residence where elements speak volumes. Bustling with natural light and air, the central stairway grabs the attention and shows that has a lot more to it than being a hollow space.

Not very far from the staircase is the kitchen where all the drama happens. Studded with mosaic flooring, and almost zero cabinets on the wall, this cooking space has an old-school charm. It has a vintage look and is well-lit and well-ventilated where natural light pours in, fresh air flows freely.

Talking about the master bedroom, it has been ideated with the philosophy of minimalism with a touch of robustness. The design, elements and furniture of this room enhance the space and gives an experience of zen living.

Apart from the usual, this house also has a dedicated meditation area which is also a mandir and a couple of gorgeous terraces on different levels.

There are homes that exist, and then there are homes that belong to their land, to their climate, to the quiet rhythms of nature. Chetna does not impose itself upon the earth; rather, it listens, responds, and becomes an extension of its surroundings. A composition of raw construction materials, natural light, and spatial fluidity, this residence is a testament to the power of architecture. More than a structure it is an experience, one that shifts with the seasons, that carries the scent of rain-soaked earth, that whispers in the language of wind and shadow.
