When Is Noida’s Jewar International Airport Taking Off?

Noida International Airport is Asia's largest airport and another most prominent airport after the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi NCR. The much-anticipated airport is all set to begin its operations.

After the previously announced inauguration date of October 30, the opening has been postponed. Reports suggest that the first phase of infrastructure is ready for use and is waiting for final approval by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) which may take a couple of more months. Once the site visit and inspection by authorities are completed, PM Modi is expected to officially inaugurate the airport either in December or in January.

Developed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), Noida International Airport is Asia's largest airport and another most prominent airport after the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi NCR. It has been built to distribute air traffic in the NCR region. It will facilitate domestic and international travel and is designed to become a cargo hub as well. This airport will be able to handle 12 million passengers in a year initially which is later expected to grow into 60 to 120 million by 2050.

Constructed in 1,334 hectares, the NIA boasts of new age facilities like green technology, waste management, automated check-ins, retail outlets, premium lounges, food courts and much more. In the beginning it will operate with two runways with maiden flights by IndiGo (6E), Akasa Air (QP), and Air India Express (IX). However, in the future the number can be expanded to six runways. The airport was strategically planned in Jewar as it is closer to the Yamuna Expressway which allows easy travel from areas nearby Delhi.

Over all, the Jewar international Airport is expected to boost tourism, business, real estate, and overall development in the region of Delhi-NCR and areas which are located in the vicinity.
