Delhi Airport: Inside The Newly Revamped Terminal 2

Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi's terminal 2 has reopened after a long break of almost 6 months. T2, as it is commonly called, was under renovation since April 2025 and was inaugurated on October 25, by civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu. The terminal 2 which handles domestic flights has begun operations from the next day, that is October 26.
Airports Authority of India aka AAI build the airport terminal almost 40 years ago in 1980s to cater primarily to international flights. However, soon after the larger and more modern Terminal 3 (T3) was built and T2 become functional only for domestic flights.
Key features of Newly Revamped Terminal 2
Build in approx 14.8 acres of area Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 was originally designed to handle around 1.2 crore passengers in a year. However, after renovation the terminal can easily accommodate up 1.5 crore passengers annually. Since Sunday, October 26, around 120 domestic flights have been taking off daily from Terminal 2, operated by Air India and IndiGo.
After the revamp, terminal 2 offers new and modern features like wheelchair ramps on different places of the airport, new check-in counters, revamped retail stores and food courts, upgraded security systems. Apart from these, one can adjust cabins for easy boarding, side-covering cushions for comfort and look are provided and swing doors have been installed along with better baggage handling systems.
These upgrades were introduced to ensure a smoother, faster, and more efficient flow of the ever-growing air traffic while catering to a better passenger experience.
Smarter Baggage Flow
Talking about the improved luggage flow, the T2 of Delhi Airport has a new premium feature of Self Baggage Drop where passengers can easily drop their bags by themselves with the use of pop-up automated screens without any human help. They can simply tap, drop & go.
This reduces time and one can save themselves from standing in long queues. All one needs to do is scan their boarding pass and tag the luggage on their own before dropping the bags off.
